The Procurement Service – Department of Budget and Management (PS-DBM) is set to establish its new Data Center which will house the expansion of the agency’s growing digital operation, ultimately geared towards bolstering the government’s digital transformation agenda to foster national development.

This initiative of PS-DBM, under the leadership of Executive Director Dennis S. Santiago, becomes even more relevant in relation to the National Information and Communication Technology Month (NICTM) this June, bannering the theme, “Bayang Digital ang Bagong Pilipinas.”

In case you missed it, the groundbreaking ceremony to inaugurate the project was held on April 11, 2024. Spearheaded by the Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System (PhilGEPS) Group, headed by Dir. Maria Teresita M. Semana, the ceremony marked the commencement of supplier’s delivery and deployment of services. This was attended by PS-DBM officials and supplier representatives.

Setting its sights on the continuous enhancement of its digital capabilities, the existing server rooms will be transformed into a future-proof infrastructure to host various servers, systems, and network equipment. The construction of this facility shall ensure high availability, service continuity, and sustainable improvements of the applications and data requirements of PS-DBM and PhilGEPS. The agency’s compliance with industry standards is likewise guaranteed. All these form part of PS-DBM’s 12-point Reform Agenda, specifically the modernization of PhilGEPS.

Targeted to be fully functional by November 2024, the Data Center will heighten the security of PS-DBM’s ICT investments. It will also allow PS-DBM to keep up with the ever-changing data flow and storage requirements, especially that it is launching soon the eMarketplace to serve as the government’s official e-commerce platform.

PS-DBM considers centralizing data management as vital in keeping public procurement efficient and transparent, consistent with NICTM’s call for the streamlining of public services through technological advancements.
