As part of the agency’s 18-day campaign to end violence against women (VAW), the Procurement Service – Department of Budget and Management (PS-DBM) engaged its workforce in a self-defense workshop on December 11 and 12, 2024, equipping employees with knowledge and techniques on defending oneself in the face of imminent danger or violence.
Composed mostly of women, the training was facilitated by Ssg Harry D Caramat (MI) PA of the Presidential Security Command. The activity also provided tips in digital security to ensure safety even in cyberspace.
Prior to the workshop, a forum on Republic Act 9262, otherwise known as the Anti- violence against women and their children of 2024, was conducted by Philippine Commission on Women’s resource person Retired PCol Susan Jalla. The law’s salient features were highlighted, the discussion of which was elaborated through data on current statistics of gender-based violence in the country, case studies on real life situations and outcomes, as well as the action plan for when one becomes a victim. Personnel from the regional depots were able to attend this lecture online.
In her message, Executive Director Genmaries S. Entredicho-Caong renewed PS- DBM’s commitment to raising awareness on gender sensitivity in the workplace, emphasizing that gender-based issues may impact the victim both in the personal and professional aspects.
“These initiatives must go beyond the 18-day campaign period, as we aspire to inculcate a lasting impact on our workforce,” said Arnold James M. Dupla, OIC-Director for Administrative and Finance Group, sitting as the Chairperson of the PS-DBM Gender and Development - Focal Point System (GAD-FPS).
PS-DBM echoes the campaign to end VAW through GAD-FPS activities and programs as the agency believes that empowering its employees, especially the women, ultimately results in a more productive workforce, peaceful homes, and progressive communities.
