Following the onslaught of several typhoons—the most recent of which was Super Typhoon Pepito—that brought devastation to many parts of Luzon, the Procurement Service – Department of Budget and Management (PS-DBM) heeds the call to contribute to efforts geared towards national recovery.

Through its social responsibility program enabled by part of the proceeds from the ONE PS-DBM Fun Run 2024 event, which took place on October 6, 2024 at the UP Diliman, PS-DBM returned to the campus to take part in a donation drive spearheaded by the UP Diliman Padayon Public Service Office for its Bagyong Pepito Relief Operations.

PS-DBM Deputy Executive Director Philip Josef T. Vera Cruz, along with Operations Group Director Samantha Grace E. Moscoso and Fun Run Race Director Mary Rose L. Aganon, led the turnover of 300 care packages on November 21, 2024 to the officials of UP Diliman led by University President Angelo A. Jimenez, Executive Vice President Jose Fernando T. Alcantara, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs Ma. Shari Nina G. Oliquino, and UP Diliman Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs Jerwin F. Agpaoa.

Each care package consists of canned goods, ready-to-eat meals, biscuits, bottled water, hygiene kits, and first aid kits, among others. Through the coordination of Padayon Public Service Office—the UP Diliman’s system-wide organization tasked to mobilize resources, respond to demands, and sustain public service programs—these care packages shall be handed over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development to ensure organized support to and fair distribution among affected families and communities.

“I want to thank PS-DBM… These [initiatives] are not just symbolic; these are [real] acts… and we hope it could inspire more of our kababayan to do what they can with what they have or they can afford to be in solidarity sa mga taong nangangailangan ng tulong,” UP President Jimenez said.

The term “Padayon” is a Visayan word which means “carry on.” PS-DBM, under the leadership of Executive Director Genmaries S. Entredicho-Caong, is steadfast in delivering public service beyond its mandate as the central purchasing arm of the whole of government through social responsibility programs such as this.

“UP serves, and we thank PS-DBM for sharing the same spirit of service with us,” Jimenez further attested. | November 21, 2024/PM
