True to its commitment to streamline the public procurement process through technological advancements and innovation, anchored on the administration’s overarching digital transformation agenda, the Procurement Service - Department of Budget and Management (PS-DBM) upgraded its server room into a data center, housing the agency’s expanding digital operations.

Inaugurated in October 2024 as part of the agency’s 46th anniversary celebration, the data center bolsters PS-DBM’s efforts to digitalize its operations—the most recent of which was the pilot implementation of the eMarketplace, a feature of the modernized Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System (PhilGEPS) that now serves as the government’s e-commerce platform for the procurement of common-use supplies and equipment (CSE).

The ceremony was held at the PS-DBM Main Office in Paco, Manila, attended by the Executive Management Committee led by Executive Director (ED) Genmaries S. Entredich-Caong. DBM Undersecretary and Chief Information Officer Francesca Del M. Rosario and former PS-DBM ED Dennis S. Santiago also graced the event.

A compact space within the agency premises, the PS-DBM Data Center boasts a hyperconverged, future-proof infrastructure that hosts various servers, systems, and network equipment. It is complemented with an environmental monitoring system to maintain sustainable improvements, ensuring long-term availability, uninterrupted power supply, service continuity, and robust performance. It is likewise equipped with safety systems that guarantee protection of both software and hardware from hazards.

“I am proud to share with you that with the establishment of our own Data Center, PS- DBM complies with industry standards. With PhilGEPS, matagal na po tayong nakasasabay sa modernisasyon. Ngunit ngayon, with the Data Center na proyekto pong pinangunahan din ng ating PhilGEPS Group, mas lalo pa nating mapaiigting ang kakayahan natin to modernize our operations,” ED Gen said in a message.

In this age of digital transformation, enabled by the provisions of the New Government Procurement Act, PS-DBM goes beyond centralized procurement—as it also centralizes its data management to keep up with the ever-changing data flow and storage demands. With this new milestone, PS-DBM is ready to meet the growing needs of its stakeholders. | December 18, 2024/PM
